Overview

International Coaching Course (ICC) is a prestigious 8-week on-campus program at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS), organized in cooperation with the International Olympic Committee and supported by Olympic Solidarity (OS). Since its launch in 1971, the ICC has aimed to educate and train coaches from around the globe, providing a comprehensive blend of theoretical and practical coaching education.

This program offers a systematic approach for coaches to enhance their knowledge and skills in the theoretical, technical, and practical aspects of coaching. Held twice a year during spring and fall, the ICC includes both theoretical and practical teaching hours across various sports disciplines. Participants can specialize in up to 9 of the 28 Olympic sports available per semester.

During the 2025 Spring Semester the following 9 sport specifications are launched:

  • Basketball
  • Fencing
  • Football (soccer)
  • General Conditioning
  • Judo
  • Swimming
  • Volleyball
  • Water-Polo
  • Tennis

The ICC is an exceptional opportunity for determined coaches aspiring for excellence and expertise. It is designed to accommodate a wide range of participants, from former elite sportsmen and coaches to master coaches, providing new and innovative methods of coaching with a balanced emphasis on theory and practice.


What does the course fee include?

The fee includes the instruction, examinations, accommodation (at Sport Hotel Velence), daily dietary allowance, the use of university facilities, Budapest public transportation pass valid throughout the whole stay, transportation to and from the airport, admittance to cultural and social programs, and limited HUSS merchandise products. Sport equipment, airfare tickets and Schengen visa are not included.

Those applicants who wish to receive a scholarship via Olympic Solidarity must contact and receive the support of their National Sports Federation as well as the support of their National Olympic Committee. Additionally, positive appraisal from their International Sports Federation is needed before consideration for an Olympic scholarship for coaches by Olympic Solidarity. This is a separate application which must be managed by the applicant.

Programme structure

The course content is designed to meet the needs of coaches working with both developing and elite athletes. The program includes both theoretical and practical teaching hours, and completing both components is essential for training competent coaches. The teaching staff consists of internationally renowned university professors, specialists, qualified coaches, and sports scientists, ensuring the quality of education.

Participants engage in practical coaching at leading Hungarian sports clubs, supervised by senior lecturers and their assistants. Applications are open for 7-9 Olympic sports every year, depending on the demand and actual applications. HUSS offers General Conditioning every semester, a sport specification unique to our university.

Upon completing the program, participants receive a Certificate of Completion, gaining internationally recognized qualifications that enhance their expertise and open new career opportunities in the sports field.
