World-class presentations await HUSS students as well at this year's Biomechanics Symposium
Interesting topics, a friendly atmosphere, and opportunities for breakthrough await those who wish to participate in the 3rd Biomechanics Symposium to be held this October.
“It was so good that I’m coming next year even if I’m not invited”, said one of the speakers at last year’s Biomechanics Symposium held at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS). The two-day event in October focussed on the connection between artificial intelligence, sports and aging. This year, the symposium, which will take place again at HUSS on 13-14 October, will center around injury prevention and rehabilitation. The registration period began on April 1 and will run until September, so don’t miss out!
“The first two symposiums were a great success, and we hope that this year’s event will surpass them”, said Dr András Hegyi, research fellow at the Department of Kinesiology of HUSS in response to our inquiry. He is organizing this year’s event together with Tibor Hortobágyi, research professor at the department, and Dr Annamária Péter, fellow researcher. “We always aim to choose topics that cover both sports and aging, and I believe this year’s themes will be more popular and easier to digest than last year’s. We’re not only expecting HUSS staff and students, but also elite athletes and representatives from sports academies.”
András Hegyi emphasized that the invited speakers, and therefore their presentations as well, are of world-class quality. This is a fantastic opportunity for students, as they don’t need to organize expensive trips abroad to attend such events: the knowledge is coming to them, right here at HUSS.
“This Biomechanics Symposium has a special kind of magic,” András Hegyi continued. “Our speakers usually attend large conferences where multiple sessions run in parallel, but here, there’s no such overlap, attention isn’t scattered. The atmosphere is more intimate and personal. By the second day, most participants already know each other, which is one reason our guests really appreciate this format. At the same time, the environment offers a unique opportunity for students to meet researchers whose names they’ve only seen in scientific articles or on the covers of popular biomechanics textbooks.”
The research fellow at HUSS added that providing opportunities for less experienced young professionals to prove themselves is a key priority for them. That’s why they launched the poster session, which offers these participants a chance to break through.
“We encourage students to present their work in the form of a poster at the symposium. They can upload the abstract of their project via the symposium’s website, and the accepted works will be presented in a three-minute talk. Students will compete for prestigious awards: the top three presentations, evaluated by a professional jury, will each receive a cash prize, made possible through the support of the MDPI Biomechanics journal. The awards will be presented during the closing dinner, which will serve as a celebration of the next generation.”
