On April 10, the spring semester of the International Coaching Course (ICC) at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) was officially opened as part of the university’s centenary celebrations.

This year, 20 students from 18 different countries have started their intensive studies at our university from April 1 to May 23.

The opening day continued at 5 p.m. with a friendly reception attended by both instructors and students. Guests had the opportunity to taste authentic Hungarian dishes such as pörkölt (a traditional stew), Rákóczi túrós (a sweet cottage cheese dessert), and Somlói galuska (a layered sponge cake dessert), offering them a delicious introduction to Hungarian culture.

Following the shared meal, participants competed in a fun quiz, testing their knowledge about Hungary’s history, culture, and sports achievements. The lively competition provided an excellent opportunity for students to get to know each other better and build connections.

Later in the evening, ICC students were joined by other international students to take part in a special Hungarian folk dance event organized by the Budai Fonó Music House. The program began at 7:00 p.m. with a cozy folk music concert, during which guests could enjoy food, drinks, and conversations. From 7:30 p.m., a one-hour dance session followed, where participants learned Moldavian dances, various civil dances, and the Szatmári csárdás. The evening concluded with Szatmár-style music from 8:30 p.m., where everyone was welcome to continue dancing with the newly learned steps.

The opening event not only marked the start of academic studies but also emphasized community building and offered students an experiential introduction to Hungarian culture, helping them feel at home in Budapest during the coming weeks.
